Biography

Sharon Booma - Artists - Pryor Fine Art

"You study, you learn, but you guard the original naivete. It has to be within you....the essential thing is to put oneself in a frame of mind which is close to that of prayer." Matisse

The painted surfaces of my paintings reflect the human experience, the beauty in its imperfection, mystery and spirituality. Each work is unique and cannot be repeated or a part of a formalized process; it has to be reborn; it has its own rhythm and is the manifestation of action, thought and feeling.

Most of my instincts are to make rational and objective choices as a painter; and so I work rigorously to remain open to the element of controlled chance - to be caught between a concentrated physicality and an equally strong but elusive delicacy rooted in emotion, memory and imagination.
