Biography

Kathy Moss is a formal painter, drawing from a deep engagement with materials, scale, surface, and composition. She prepares her own gesso and medium, grounding her work in traditional techniques while exploring contemporary themes.

Over the past two decades, Moss has developed a personal iconography of glistening, minimal surfaces where floating objects act as symbolic forms. Her paintings bridge the conceptual and representational, with delicate paint applications layered over muscular chalk-and-oil grounds. Flowers and botanicals frequently appear in her work, chosen for their striking silhouettes, the tension of defined edges, and the psychological depth they evoke. Scaled large, they suggest heads, landscapes, and abstract symbols, exploring themes of power, boundaries, and hierarchies.
