Felice Sharp has spent a lifetime exploring the human form, first as a dancer and yoga instructor, then as a portrait painter, and later as an abstract manipulator of the figure. This journey has led her to push the boundaries of how the human body and movement are perceived, moving beyond the physical into more fluid, expressive realms.
Using a variety of materials such as pigment, ink, charcoal, paper, and plaster, Sharp’s work seeks to transcend traditional limits, with each piece unfolding unpredictably. Through layering, she allows the paint to "dance," inspired by choreography and postures replaying in her mind, ultimately releasing the movement of the universe onto the canvas
These are interesting times. A slower and more reflective pace has replaced the fast track of the last 10 years. I have felt a need to become more grounded, connecting more deeply with family and close friends. My new work compares the light sources in master paintings created by the intense study of sunlight and reflection with light in contemporary work manipulated, so effectively, by halogen and digital enhancements. Visually, I hope my paintings take traditional subject matter and transform it to contemporary vision. In doing so, I seek to create a bridge to follow the light into the future.
