Brian Blackham - Artists - Pryor Fine Art

Light, color, and spatial relationships sit at the center of Brian Blackham’s practice. The paintings begin with an attentiveness to “the light that exists within the environment and the light that falls over the objects,” exploring how color shifts in value and intensity depending on distance, placement, and surrounding space.

Each composition is built slowly, one piece of visual information at a time. Through this process, objects gradually emerge within the painted space, creating what the artist describes as “a dance that feels like it’s the most important thing on earth.”

Placement is equally significant. The relationship between objects, color, and negative space is carefully considered, with balance functioning as a kind of “feng shui in two dimensions.” Through these subtle adjustments, Blackham’s paintings seek to create an experience that is both visually satisfying and mentally resonant.
