The premise of my work addresses how existence is questionable without interaction. In it, the dialogue between a painting and viewer is arguably as important in creating the sense of Self as is the interaction from person to person. Even though I personally create the work, a unique and spontaneous conversation is taking place between the painting and its audience. In this dynamic, the viewer not only constructs the “essence” of the piece, but also observes their process of constructing it. It is within this symbolic interaction that the viewer is also being constructed by the work.
In my latest series of work titled “Mirrors” I continue addressing how existence is questionable without interaction while attempting to give the viewer a new perspective. By removing certain staple imagery while playing with textures and reflections I aim to draw the viewer in to participate more deeply in the evolution of each piece. Much like my general work, “Mirrors” give a hint of meaning but hold back in order for the viewer to complete this process. It is this dynamic that interests me most; the inner dialogue occurring between myself, my artwork and the viewer
