Lisa Lala explores profound questions of existence from her cliff-side studio, seeking to re-humanize painting by connecting viewers to moments of peace, contemplation, and emotional depth. While best known for her paintings, her diverse practice also includes sculpture, light art, and installations.
Born in California to artistic parents, sculptor Wil Lala and watercolorist Susan Lala, she was immersed in creativity from a young age. Her mother encouraged her early artistic instincts by sharing her fiber art studio, while humanitarian trips with her parents exposed Lala to a global perspective and diverse cultures. She now lives and works in Lake Lotawana, Missouri.
Lala earned her BFA from the University of Kansas and has since studied with master abstract painter Philomene Bennett, as well as painted alongside Wolf Kahn, Lisa Grossman, Jane Booth, and others. Her award-winning work has been widely exhibited, including at Blue Gallery (Kansas City), Strecker-Nelson Gallery (Manhattan, Kansas), Marion Meyer Gallery (LA/Laguna Beach), Chicago Art Source Gallery (Chicago), and Pryor Fine Art (Atlanta). She has also shown at Anthem Gallery (New York City) and Belizian Arts Gallery (Belize).
